Allow me to start with a confession: I’m not exactly an afternoon tea aficionado. Don’t get me wrong - I love the idea of it, that charmingly old-school ritual - but too many afternoon teas fall short. There’s often an overload of sweet bites that leave you a little too full and longing for more savoury treats. Only a select few have convinced me to come back, and Regent Hong Kong’s is one of them. So when I received an invitation to experience their new, limited-time collaboration with La Maison du Chocolat - a French brand I adore and have raved about here before - it was an easy ‘yes’ from me.

I arrived at The Lobby Lounge at 3 pm, deliberately skipping lunch to make room for this indulgent affair. I was welcomed not only by the gorgeous views of Victoria Harbour but also by chef Nicolas Cloiseau, named Best Craftsman of France - Chocolatier Confectioner in 2007 and the creative force behind La Maison du Chocolat since 2012. To celebrate his return to Hong Kong after a decade, he unveiled a chocolate masterpiece combining Parisian landmarks with iconic Hong Kong sights, a beautiful symbol of this collaboration between La Maison du Chocolat and Regent Hong Kong.

Settling into a cosy sofa bathed in warm autumn light, I ordered a tea and treated myself to the Chocolate Martini, crafted for the occasion and available as an add-on at HKD 128.

And then came the set, which included a delightful selection of finger sandwiches by The Lobby Lounge’s head chef, Rajiv Chowdhoory. Not only was I starving, but I remembered these little bites from my last visit - perfectly addictive and offering a welcome savoury balance to the sweet indulgences. A cauliflower and wild mushroom “tiramisu” amuse-bouche started things off, surprising me with its earthy flavour and refreshing twist.

Of course, the scones - freshly baked by Regent Hong Kong’s executive pastry chef Andy Yeung - were just as heavenly as I remembered. And then came the grand finale: a trio of signature desserts by master chef Nicolas Cloiseau. Each bite was exactly what my chocolate-loving heart hoped for: refined, comforting, and just indulgent enough. My personal favourite was the lemon hazelnut roulade, followed closely by a chestnut and blackcurrant tartlet with a soft chocolate biscuit base and an utterly decadent choux filled with chocolate and cocoa nibs.
