With travel back in full speed, it was about time I put that free return flight ticket to Singapore to good use. Yep, you read it correctly … free return flight ticket. Remember during the pandemic when Cathay Pacific was giving away return tickets to several destinations to encourage people to get their first dose? Well, not that I needed any incentive to get jabbed but I did take part in the campaign and won something. Anyway, fast forward to two years later and here I am, checking in Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore for two nights.

Located in OUE Downtown, a high-rise skyscrapers complex which also hosts offices and a shopping mall, the apart-hotel rebranded just a few months ago. Its location, in the heart of Singapore’s central business district makes it great option for business travellers. Those on a leisure trip will find it conveniently located within a two-minute walk from Lau Pa Sat – one of the city’s iconic hawker centres, and a stone’s throw away from the boutique shops and charming tucked-away restaurants of Duxton Hill, the cafes and bars of Tanjong Pagar, and the scrumptious food stalls of Maxwell Food Centre. What’s more, must-do attractions such as the Merlion and Marina Bay Sands are a three-minute drive away. There’s free shuttle service to whisk you off to the latest.
Good to know though, especially coming from Hong Kong, weekends are extremely quiet in the area, and you’ll even struggle to find a coffee shop open on a Sunday.

Rooms that you can call home
As an apart-hotel, Dao by Dorsett AMTD Singapore features a mix of studio accommodations and executive suites with one, two or three bed bedrooms. The One-Bedroom Executive Suite I was staying in was equipped with a kitchenette featuring a refrigerator, washing machine, tableware, and cutlery.
Add to that a contemporary décor, panoramic windows, a comfy king bed and an ample desk space, and you can easily make yourself at home in this cosy nest – whether it’s for just a few days or for a longer stay. The hotel is a popular choice for the latest.
Hong Kong Madame loved: the Abyssian vegan, and cruelty-free, haircare products and shower gel. I was already familiar with the brand as I’ve been using their Sunday Detox Exfoliating Shampoo for a few years, but it was great to see them available in the bathroom.

Facilities
Most of the property’s facilities are found on the seventh floor – which is also the lobby floor.
Breakfast and all-day dining are served at The Collective – the in-house restaurant. The dining room however lacks a touch of charm and warmth, so I opted for a cup of Bacha Coffee in my room in the morning and a satay feast in the street at the nearby Lau Pa Sat for dinner. It’s worth mentioning thought that the menu features an array of vegan and plant-based options and a selection of starters and mains using OMNI – a plant-based pork substitute.
If the dining room didn’t wow me, the infinity outdoor pool did. It’s great both for lounging by and for swimming. The active buffs can also enjoy access to the well-equipped gym. It’s adjacent to the pool and the soothing views of the water from the floor-to-ceiling windows is something to get you motivated while running on your treadmill.

From the lady who checked me in to the affable driver who took me to my next destination and the concierge who recommended his favourite local laksa place, the several interactions I had with the hotel’s staff all contributed to make my stay one to remember.
The property doesn’t come shorts of idea when it in the matter of adding little things to make you feel at home. Worth noting are its several partnerships with homegrown brands. These include Brass Lion – Singapore’s first fully-fledged gin distillery, which supplies spirits to the hotel and offer cocktail making tours for guests but also Avo&Co, for guests looking to get fresh seasonal produce delivered to their room (which comes handy if you’re here on a long stay and want to cook your own meals). Le Petit Society – a Singapore award-winning children’s clothing retailer, is offering special benefits for families with young kids staying at the hotel.
You can also request an Infrared Sauna Blanket or a Red Light Therapy to be delivered to your room.
Last, but not least, I recommend you opt for the Dao+ package (which can be bought at check-in). This is your chance to elevate your stay with special treats such as welcome snacks by Green Common – a local plant-based eatery and grocery store, and a welcome box from Avo&Co as well as cocktails and canapes from 5 to 8 pm. It will also allow you to take advantage of in-room breakfast with Prosecco and a very indulgent turndown service inclusive of chocolate truffles and the possibility to order hot or iced milk, soy milk, milo, a cake of the day, macarons or tartlets.
