Rumi Yoga Wear: when style meets sustainability

Rumi Yoga Wear has been created in Hong Kong, in December 2014 by Melissa Chu.
When she just had her yoga teacher certification in India, after trying a few brands, she decided to create the pants that she wanted to wear. And that was quite a challenge because they’d have to be climate adapted, not too thick, breathable, comfortable, easy to wear all day, mixed up with good basics for an “everyday outfit”, but still bright and colorful, not forgetting to be eco-friendly. Serious challenge…

But the bet was won. Melissa created a range of leggings, capris and shorts that were all that, in 100% recycled polyester/spandex, made from plastic bottles! Add to this some awesome designs, water based prints, a serious attention to detail and that’s how Rumi Yoga Wear was born.
Later, it even became the only brand in Hong Kong offering maternity crops in their colorful range.

No, they’re not only made for yoga. CrossFit, running, kickboxing… Whatever challenge you’re going for, they’ll be your partner, making you feel good and look good. I’ve of course been charmed by the colorful prints but I’ve also been very impressed by the softness and comfort of the fabric. Hard to believe it comes from plastic bottles!

In March 2016, the brand is going for a new step… First, a new identity with a new logo and name: Rumi X.  They’ll also enlarge the range with sports bras, tees, long sleeves and innovating again, they’ll launch tank tops, made from recycled coffee grounds!

But not only that… What if I told you that you can live your love for leggings and also support women’s rights?...
Rumi X is collaborating with the UN Organization, lending them a helping hand supporting the cause of women’s rights. They created a “Singapore Committee for UN Women limited edition” with a sky design. 30% of proceeds will go directly to the UN Women foundation for their work in ending violence towards women, economic empowerment, governance and leadership.

So you can treat yourself with a pair of lovely limited edition leggings and be a part of the change, helping support the women of this world at the same time!
March 8th is the launch date in coordination with Women's International Day but I give you a tip: have a look to the new website early March and you may find it available a bit before that date…
