Serge et le Phoque

October 4th 2013

Yes! You guessed it, it's the name of Hong Kong's latest hip restaurant. It was opened a month ago by a team of Frenchies - and it's been full ever since!  We recommend arriving by 9.30pm at the latest- as it's best to book a table too. This place is so cool it's bordering on 'hipster', it's also very relaxed, very welcoming  and very easy going! Even if the decor didn't really do it for us, we still really liked the open plan New York loft vibe, complete with bare walls, big suspensions on the ceiling and the small industrial design details.  As one of the people on our table rightly put it "the menu doesn't make much sense…". But while the food does sound a bit "blabla", once the fork is in your mouth, it's a different story! Pure delight! We recommend the tapas style grilled anchovies,  the tuna and the pea soup to start, then for mains the beef (extremely tender, but we would have loved a bigger portion), the pork belly and the scallops. We finished it all off with an assortment of delicious cheeses and then some of of their amazing desserts like the super airy chocolate mousse. We washed it all down with organic wine too- we'll leave you to discover those! Each to their own, but let's just say that there's something for everyone! We certainly found a good match!
