I spent years working in Taikoo, and let me tell you, it’s a completely different place now from when I first started there. Back in 2019, lunchtime options were pretty slim - think a handful of local eateries, a couple of surprisingly good and budget-friendly Indian spots, and supermarket takeaways that didn’t exactly spark joy. Dinner? Forget it. I’d rush back to livelier neighbourhoods as soon as the clock hit 6.

Fast forward a few years, and the area has blossomed into a proper culinary hub, with Té Bo as its latest standout. Honestly, even though I no longer work in Taikoo, this address tested last week is more than worth the 10-minute taxi ride (or 20-minute MTR journey) from my home in SoHo.

The vibe

Tucked away on the second floor of 1880 Social in Two Taikoo Place, Té Bo feels intimate yet vibrant, modern yet welcoming. With just 26 seats (including 14 at the counter), the space feels cosy but not cramped. And if you’re in the mood to geek out over food, sitting at the counter is the perfect spot to chat with the chef and watch the magic unfold.

The name Té Bo, a playful twist on the French phrase “t’es beau” (you’re beautiful), sets the tone for the restaurant: effortlessly chic, unpretentious, and just a little bit cheeky.

The chef and his team

At the helm is Sebastian Lorenzi, whose impressive credentials include stints at some of Hong Kong’s finest kitchens, most recently as chef de cuisine at Arcane. His modern European menu, with its creative nods to Asian ingredients, is as thoughtful as it is delicious.

The team brings warmth and polish to the experience, with general manager François Ferrand making you feel right at home and sommelier Joffrey Poussade curating the wine list. Think French classics alongside a few Swiss and Italian surprises.

The food

Now, onto the main event: the food. I was treated to the six-course dinner menu priced at HKD 1,488 per person, and every dish was a delight.

The Lobster, Avocado, and Oscietra Caviar was a standout, vibrant, creamy dish elevated by the bright zing of yuzu. Then came the indulgent Beef Cheek Raviolo, stuffed with tender beef cheek and foie gras, perfectly balanced by Jerusalem artichoke and a hint of lemon gel.

T I’ve tried my fair share of yellow chicken dishes (it’s practically a trend in Hong Kong), but Té Bo’s Three Yellow Chicken might just be my favourite. Served with kale, sweetcorn, and a smoky mayonnaise, it’s comforting yet sophisticated - exactly what I want from a modern fine dining dish.

And the dessert? A refreshing pineapple and yuzu crémeux that wrapped up the meal beautifully without tipping it into overindulgence.

The verdict

Té Bo is exactly what Taikoo needed: a fine dining restaurant with creative dishes, a warm vibe, and a bit of flair. Whether you’re looking to impress a date, treat yourself to a midweek splurge, or simply explore a new foodie destination, this is one spot that’s worth the journey east.
