Well, being French has turned to be quite cool over the past few days (I mean, cooler than it already was) and you know us, Frenchies, never the last when it comes to strutting about. But after all, there are quite a few things to strut about: we have the best football team in the world but also the best food and the best wine and a rather cool and smart president that we have elected while part of the world was electing a dumbass while another one was voting the Brexit. Sorry my Brit friends but in that ancestral war which has been opposing us since 1337 (and the beginning of the Hundred Years’ War), the past few years has definitely been in favour of team France … C’mon guys, just kidding!

Of course, I have absolutely nothing against you Brits, actually quite love you especially when you come up with concept such as Gough’s On Gough, the first restaurant by interior designer Timothy Oulton. You know what, I can feel that I have been offended a few people … what about I take you off for diner and invite you to try the new sharing menu at Gough’s On Gough ? Would that make it up for me being nothing but a snobbish Parisian girl?

I do love a good old family-style sharing dishes dinner from time to time and Chef Aaron Rhodes is treating us to a proper feast tonight! Vegetarians I’m sorry, tonight isn’t your night! Kicking things off w/ the Whole Roast Cornish Hen (HKD 688 / for two people) served w/ baked potatoes. A pleasant surprise. I usually avoid ordering poultries when at the restaurant as I’m always afraid it’s gonna be quite dry but this one wasn’t at all. What about a slice of Belted Galloway Ribeye Steak (HKD 788 / for two people)? This heritage breed of beef cattle originating from Galloway on the west side of southern Scotland is known for its quality of marbled beef. But the star of the show is definitely the Beef Wellington (HKD 858 / for two people), perfectly cooked, tender and juicy … Gimme, gimme more!

And you know what I love with the concept of sharing dishes? You get to try more. Which means tonight I have room for dessert. What about we order both the Chocolate M&M (HKD 118) – a malted chocolate ganache w/ mint chocolat mousse, chocolate biscuit and almond brownie (ok that’s one thing I’m happy to give to the Brits: I love mint chocolate!) – and the Strawberry Cream (HKD 98) – a refreshing strawberry Bavarois w/ Pandan cake and strawberry sorbet?

Well you know what? It sometimes only take a good meal to solve a conflict!

September 2019's edit:

Gough’s on Gough now also serves casual British bar bites at the ground floor Piranha Bar (named after the live Amzonanian piranha display located at the restaurant’s entrance) The perfect place all-day destination for guests in the neighborhood to grad a quick, no-fuss bite to eat: fresh Oysters from Brittany (HKD 168 for six), Bacon Sandwich (HKD 68), super yummy Fish Finger Sandwich (HKD 68), Bouchot Mussels with Chips (HKD 158)

Hong Kong Madame’s fav: the Star Gazy Pie (HKD 78), a Cornish traditional dish made of sardines, eggs and potatoes covered with a pastry crust. Surprising and quite unique, we love it with a touch of piccalilli sauce … How Brit of us?

Piranha Bar Menu is available daily: Mon-Sat 12 pm to 10 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 7 pm
