48-hour-getaway at Four Seasons Shenzhen

Living in HK is magic for week end getaways but frankly, Shenzhen was not in my top 5 of week end destinations. However, the city that some call “the Chinese Silicon Valley” was intriguing me. Thus, when Four Seasons Shenzhen invited me for their Taste of Artistry event for two days full of Michelin star food, cooking class and contemporary art, I was absolutely thrilled!

I got to Shenzhen by bus from Wan Chai to Huanggang (50HK$ with Chinalink). Ten-minute taxi ride from the immigration borders and my experience started as soon as I entered the main lobby of the Four Seasons. Modern, massive and located in the heart of Futian neighborhood, the hotel has a total of 266 rooms, an indoor and outdoor pool, a fabulous spa, a 24-hour gym, a beautiful bar and lounge called Yi and two restaurants.

I spent my two nights at Four Seasons Shenzhen in a gorgeous suite. 88m2 (that looked like 1000m2 after few years in Hong Kong), a mini iPad for ordering room service or requesting any time of assistance, a huge bathroom, and a super comfy bed that includes a pillow menu to choose your perfect match!

Saturday was the BIG day for the hotel with the first edition of Taste of Artistry – a six-week series of exclusive lifestyle and dining experiences curated by nine Four Seasons hotels in Mainland China, Macau and Hong Kong. I started my day with a master cooking class with Chef Charles Cheung Chi Choi, Michelin star chef visiting from Four Seasons Macau; followed by a lunch with tea pairing (a magical experience). Should I tell you that I went back to the magical bed for a nap after that? ;)

The festivities continued with a “4 hands” unique dining experience inside an art gallery on the ground floor of the hotel. Chef Giovanni D’Alessandro and Chef Charles Cheung made the 8 course-wine-dinner an epic gastronomic journey marrying food, art and wine. Having dinner surrounded by stunning pop art installations was wonderful!  After a cocktail on the Yi Bar terrace, I went to Seaworld neighbourhood to explore the best of SZ nightlife. And it was lots of fun!

On Sunday morning, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast in the gorgeous FOO restaurant before heading to Luo Hu Commercial Centre for shopping. This was not the most relaxing part of the week end but my plan of attack was ready and I knew what I was looking for (it can be tumultuous and fruitless without game plan).

Back to the hotel for a late check-out, and after a last tea in the executive lounge, and (sadly) it was time to go back to Hong Kong.

Verdict? Shenzhen, I’ll be back!
You may have not considered it before, and I highly recommend Shenzhen for a week end get away to explore the city and make yourself at home in the luxury of the impeccable and impressive Four Seasons Hotel Shenzhen. From A to Z, the quality of service remains impressive with an absolute eye for details.
