We could advise you to pack up your Timberlands, to slip on your rucksack and set off on a long trek to mount Kota Kinabalu. We could tell you about the breathtaking views and the aches and pains that we endured from all the walking. But, that's not really our style is it? Rather, our suitcases were packed with a flashy bikini, a sarong, a straw hat and some anti wrinkle sun cream! You get the idea? We recommend you just go and relax at the Gaya Island Resort on Pulo Island, and do...absolutely nothing (except maybe the short walk from the pool to the beach, splashing around in the sea, enjoying a Bloody Mary at the pool bar and relaxing at the spa between a yoga class and pre dinner drinks). This doesn't mean you can't take a little one hour hike around the island, do some driving or kayaking of course. The hotel offers a variety of different activities all day long. You should definitely consider booking lunch on a private beach (we missed out in that unfortunately but we really recommend you do it). The hotel is very good: it's not the Four Seasons but it's not at all bad. It's surrounded by incredible vegetation, spacious bedrooms and they have super comfortable beds. And don't forget the little terrace outside your bedroom which is the perfect setting for a last little drink before bed...
