Banyan Tree Macau, an enchanting break just an hour away from Hong Kong

By Delphine

A nice, calm week-end away from Hong Kong, laying by the pool, toes stretched out under the palm trees …. Sounds nice, right ? But a mere weekend seems far too short especially since it’s easy to spend an entire day in transit by air, not worth it for just two or three days of vacation, but ever so tempting with such amazing sunny weather. So where does one go?

The Banyan Tree MacauA week-end of luxury just an hour away by ferry! And when I say luxury, I mean it! For all the family, big and small. I promise, everyone will love it. Why?
1 - Rooms are HUGE!!! 100m2 for the smallest one, and it comes with a private swimming pool. Yes, I am not kidding. Not to talk of the large wooden bath tub for two, a king size bed with a menu of pillows to choose from, a minibar, a huge lounge area, an espresso machine...

2 - The spa is incredible and of the highest quality. This is the hotel’s signature offering and it comes with amazing treatments. The staff are gentle, friendly and professional. It’s just perfect. I spent the entire day there without a hitch. The spa is beautifully designed, zen and calming with aisles fringed with bamboo trees which take you to your private treatment room or to the shower, restrooms, locker rooms, all this for you. You can choose the type of music you prefer from the wide playlist selection or the type of creams and oils. After the treatment, you are offered a fruit platter with tea on a beautifully carved tray. Dreamy!

3 - The Galaxy resort has a huge nautical complex, including a large wave pool and an artificial beach with white sand, enchanting rivers, water skis, all-day fun activities, available life jackets and buoys. Children won’t want to leave. I however preferred the private pool, since it is calming and insulated with rattan fences… I feel like in Bali.

4 - Its restaurants are refined and the food, delicious. In the evenings, on the last floor of the building, Belon offers Happy Hours from 5pm onwards, offering cocktails, oysters, and all you can eat antipasti. After that, head to the restaurant area to try the grilled lobster or a good beef steak. As for lunch, I advise you to try the Saffran, an ultra refined thai restaurant, which transports you straight to Phuket!

5 - Service is attentive, and you have access to the casino if you would like to play and win your future stay, the owner speaks French and can adapt to the needs of all the different visiting nationalities, the swimming pool is heated 29 degrees, the sports room is huge and replete with amenities, the Sunday brunch is a feast from fairytales, the children’s activities are numerous, the breakfast lasts until 11am….. In fact, two days is not enough to enjoy all that is on offer but we will be back since we are not so far away!
