The Baystone Hotel is the opposite of what you might expect from hotels in Mauritius, A real flagship in terms of elegance and design, it’s dramatic outline sits right on the coast on the Northern side of the island, over -looking the Great Bay cove.
The Baystone is nestled down a little road in the town of Point Aux Canonniers, and the building’s dramatic angles and white metal and lava stone cut into the backdrop of the sapphire blue sky. You’ll soon realise it’s a hotel full of contrast. The lobby is nowhere near so edgy; there’s some harmony in the soft lighting and in the grey nuances which blend with immaculate white walls; the wave patterns on the carpet, the LED -system wave effect on the walls, and the big round sofas and scatter cushions all create a perfectly peaceful feel. The interior designer, Albert Angel, has transformed the whole place into a refined world of elegance, and comfort. This attention to detail and the same feeling of well -being is present in the 12 hotel suites which continue the hotel’s theme of stylish materials, simple shapes and the softness of waves and light. Whether your suite looks directly over the beach or opens onto a natural teak terrace, the view of the turquoise lagoon below creates a meditative effect. As for the four suites located on the second and top floor, they really are in a league of their own; the private solariums and overflowing swimming pools really exaggerate the vast amount of space all around. For even more relaxation, a spa area is now available on this design conscious coral island too! Food wise, the chef Franco Salon has spent time around some of the best dining tables in France and Mauritius, and uses his experience to recreate light, flavourful fine food every day. He invents exquisite seafood and fish carpaccios, and combines curries and chutneys according to what he receives from local producers, suppliers and fishermen. The Baystone really is the perfect break away for two, with lots of lulling by the beach!
