How many of us have found ourselves faced with the famous question: “Honey, what’s for dinner?”. But have we ever asked our partner: “Honey, what are we drinking tonight?”. The wine and food pairing is much more complex that we think and sometimes knowing the wine can help us find recipe ideas! And above all avoid your lovingly prepared meal not having any flavour because the Vin de Monsieur wasn’t adapted… “No, I didn’t spoil my delicious veal stew, it’s your Saint-Julien that wasn’t great ☺” a Brouilly is recommended for example!
What’s more is when we’re abroad, under the pretext that we are French, we’re expected to know what wine to serve with lasagnes or a Provencal salad. FALSE! There is no shame in saying as much.
To really make an impression at your next cocktail dinner, stick with the classic theme that we expatriates love very much, the very French theme: wine and cheese!
Have you considered serving Champagne Brut with your matured camembert? Or even Monbazillac or porto wine with blue cheese? Try it!
Try the Bourgogne Aligot with munster cheese and Sancerre with Pouligny Saint-Pierre (Berrichon cheese in a pyramid shape). If your guests ever want to drink a red wine with Camembert, choose a Beaujolais or a Gamary rather than a Bordeaux.
On that note, happy drinking!
