A trip to Kyoto does the world of good! In a few days you can totally disconnect from normality and discover a truly fascinating town! You'll feel like you've stepped into one of the Japanese comics you used to read as a child- and it'll bring back lots of great memories! Kyoto is certainly a town full of treasures: some many areas worth exploring; places that resemble film sets; women dressed in Kimonos walking through the streets; Geishas hidden away from sight; delicious ramen bars. If you've got children we really recommend a trip to Nara (40 minutes by train from Kyoto) where there is a deer park. The deer are free to roam around and the kids can feed them too! But watch behind you because they may give you a nudge on your bottom! In the same area, you can visit a really stunning temple made entirely from wood. For the children, don't miss out on seeing the monkeys which live wild up on the hill! Getting up there can be a bit tricky (especially if you're carrying a little one), but you won't regret it once you get to the top. You get an amazing view of the whole town - not to mention the monkeys all around you! For the hotel, we went for a classic; the Hyatt. It wasn't an adventurous choice but it was guaranteed good value. The rooms are comfortable, the service is impeccable and the restaurants are good too. The only drawback was the style of the room - very basic!
