I am always up for a little staycation and have been hitting the beds of several hotels in the 852 but to be honest I am usually going for chains and hotels with a pool and a spa, never spent the night in a urban boutique hotel. That’s why I was pretty excited to discover The Fleming, newly re-opened after a total makeover by design agency A Work of Substance.

Blend together an ideal location in lively Wan Chai, slick design inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic cross-harbour ferries and maritime heritage and last but not least an Italian trattoria serving the best of Italian coastal cuisine and you got the ideal hotel for “style-conscious travellers who want to feel plugged-in to who’s who and what’s what when they come to Hong Kong” said John Hui, Owner.
The opening party was quite a thing (involving a 50 Shades of Grey themed room but shhh don’t tell anyone we have been naughty girls) and had me fell in love with the unique design of the place: bamboo scaffolding –inspired outdoor lighting, cross-harbour ferry-style seating, gleaming red lacquer elevators, beautiful palette of bottle green, gold and red … Every little details has been carefully thought, such as the signature scent shower gel tailor-made according to Chinese apothecary, to create a unique, stylish but not showy place. I definitely need to plan myself a staycation there! I actually already know what it would looks like …
Taking pictures of each and every corner of the beautiful room, going through the Luxe City Guide curated by the hotel and asking the help of the 24-hour concierge to be plugged into the latest Hong Kong spots, sweating some calories out at Goji Studios just around the corner and then stuffing myself at O steria Marzia with Chef Marinelli’s famous pasta dishes. Sounds pretty good eh? Why don’t you join me? Or tell your friends and family who are visiting Hong Kong that you know the most beautiful boutique hotel, perfectly located and with a true Hongkongese soul … believe me they’ll love it (plus you’ll get to share diner with them at the trattoria and check out their room).
