“I am very proud of each exhibition that has been organized by our gallery, and I find the ‘French Maze’ another breakthrough to present 27 unique pieces from renowned French artists including Marc Chagall, Jean Dubuffet and Andre Brasilier.”
Stéphane Le Pelletier, Director of Opera Gallery Asia Pacific.

The exhibition, the first of its kind in Hong Kong, is tracing ways in which French artists have changed the course of art by deftly transforming the language of painting since the post-war period.

The gallery is proud to take part of Le French May in promoting the arts and culture of France through showcasing the wide spectrum of artists and genres this month.”
Sharlane Foo, Gallery Director of Opera Gallery Hong Kong

French Maze highlights

Marc Chagalls poetic art representing lovers, musicians, flowers and animals and symbolizing the artist intense personal universe.

Integral French artist Jean Dubuffet, best known for his development of art brut (or “raw art”), is also showcased and guests will be able to view his idealistic approach to aesthetics and instinctive vision that breaks away from the norm. Unfettered by cultural influences and restrictions, his art embraces a more authentic and humanistic expression.

Contemporary artist Andre Brasilier’s work is a blend of abstraction, expressionism and something distinctly his own, typified by a whimsical and breezy lyricism. His works often feature themes and motifs like women, horses and nature, reflected in a wistful setting and peaceful world, all with delicate composition and a harmony of colours bathed in soft, cool light.

We thrive to continuously introduce various contemporary artists from old to modern with diversified art techniques to the local community.”
Sharlane Foo, Gallery Director of Opera Gallery Hong Kong
