Ship Street has been bustling with trendy bars and restaurants lately. 22 ships is not a newbie but last week I thought this old baby deserved a visit: tapas bar, Michelin-starred chef, busy ambiance, neighborhood attitude, reasonable prices and seasonal ingredients … looks like a winning place, don’t you think?

I really love the atmosphere of the place both busy and friendly. Open kitchen are also definitely my things! I love being able to spy at the Chef while he is cooking. And nothing like an open kitchen to make you feel at ease and makes you wanna chit chat with the staff and the Chef to know more about the ingredients, the dishes … Just what I did during this lunch. And oh, did I mention that the Chef, Aaron Gillespie, is kinda very cute?

What about the food? Fresh and tasty, super creative with a beautiful dressing … What else? I started with a Tuna Tartar, fresh and spicy a perfect appetizer. The heirloom tomatoes and peach salad with pinenuts, basil and mozzarella is so yummy! Juicy peaches, tasty tomatoes and fresh mozzarella – a real shot of summer. Hokkaido scallop with morcilla and radish was one of my fav dish. The scallop was just crazy big and the iodized taste matched perfectly the smoky one of the morcilla (Spanish blood sausage). The potato salad was surprising too! I always find potato salad kind of heavy and greasy dish – too much mayonnaise. This one almost seems fresh and healthy! Is it the miso, the different textures of the potatoes ... I don’t know. But I loved it and the truffle smell was just heaven. The rangers vallery ribeye with garlic and ginger was so perfectly tender that it melted in the mouth like butter. And if you are looking for true pornfood, you cannot missed the Chef’s fav dessert: peanut butter, condensed milk and banana. The salty taste of the peanut butter, the comforting one of the condensed milk, the contrast with the hot braised banana .. So yummy!

My fav dish of this feast? The foie gras custard with sea urchin! Surprising as you are not expecting foie gras to be such a fresh dish. Almost felt like I was eating something very light. This dish is highly addictive. The kinda one you feel like dipping bread in.  And if no more bread, just go with the spoon!

I haven’t tasted it but the sangria looked quite delish! And since everyone was ordering it, I guessed it is a signature drink.

My tip? Grab a bunch of friends, the kin of hungry ones so that you can order as much dishes to share as possible. There is none that you want to miss!
