Fatty Crab

Edit - January 7th 2018: this restaurant is now closed

This is Soho's latest trendy restaurant - and it's straight out of NYC. The decor is  industrial but in a nice way- we really liked the atmosphere and the details like torn posters and graffiti on the walls. If you like to eat along to pulsating rap music you'll love it here, but if not, it's probably best to look for somewhere else to eat. When you arrive at the restaurant, the welcome is a bit OTT, but it's certainly better than a frosty alternative. Hats off to our waiter who looked after us lovingly- he was very attentive and was more than able to guide us through our choices. Unfortunately, we can't say the same about the food. There were some surprising flavours and some original ideas, but for people on a diet, you'll have to give it a miss because the restaurant really lives up to its 'Fatty' name. We were not even able to finish some of the dishes like the Crispy Pork (which was actually one of the signature dishes of the restaurant). Obviously we tried the chilli crab (not cheap at 525 HKD) : it was rather good as the crab had a great taste and the meat was very tender- if a little too swamped in sauce. Alternatively, the Pork Buns and the Fatty Sliders (mini burgers) were really good. Seasoned to perfection and very tasty indeed- they were the highlight of our dinner! So there you have it. We'll end with the words of a good friend of Hong Kong Madame who really wanted to join us: '"Yes, it's a super trendy restaurant, but I'll need to take tablets to digest it all!" Needless to say, if you go easy on the food order, you'll have a much more pleasant time.
