Flavors of Summer at Tiffin - Grand Hyatt
by Aude

Nothing screams summer better than ice-cream, right?
Well if you like food as much as I do and wanna enjoy an afternoon of sweet indulgence and imaginative ice cream flavours then I might have the right place for you. May I invite you to share afternoon tea at Tiffin?

In June, members of the public were invited to share their dream ice-cream flavurs and imagine a catchy name for it. Newly appointed Executive Pastry Chef, Smita Grosse, together w/ the culinary team have been going through the answers and elected 6 winning flavors. And you know what? Those ones are now available (and until September) from the ice-cream dessert counter (during lunch buffet, afternoon tea and dinner buffet). Wish I had heard about this campaign before, would have loved to submit my own dream ice-cream. Not sure what it would have been thought … something chocolaty I guess. Or maybe something inspired by my summer holidays in Brittany, West of France, where salted butter is basically a religion. Hum chocolate and salted butter …. So yum! But back to the 6 flavors imagined by fellow foodies, I had to give it a go right?

But before moving to the counter, let’s seat and relax. A cup of Bespoke Tea (a unique blend created only for Tiffin), a scone and some clotted cream for me please. I can never say no to warm , rounder, gold scones. Just love them too much. Plus, you know, I need to be professional so it’s my mission to try the new afternoon tea items imagined by Chef Smita. It’s not an easy life that I’m living, I can tell you … No just kidding! I love it! I mean, food all the time … hell yes! Triple yum for the pistachio profiterole with apricot jelly, the Greek yogurt mousse with honey lemon and the salted caramel chocolate cake.

And now, who’s in for something very refreshing? Which flavour are you gonna go for?

Pigs can fly: salted egg yolk and pork floss. Not really my cuppa tea I must confess but loving the creative name.
Frozen Lederhosen: a tribute to Oktoberfest through malt beer, toffee crunch and pretzels. Interesting!
So Thai: a dream for mango sticky rice lovers like me
Royal Fantasy: a very British orange blossom, honey and ginger fantasy inspired by the recent Royal Wedding
Crispy-crunch Maple: bacon and maple … and you know what? It’s bomb!
Rude Raspberry: a rich raspberry ice-cream with caramelized vanilla

Seriously? How do people get so creative w/ ice-cream flavours? You know what? I’m gonna start thinking to my ideal recipe now so that if they launch the same campaign next year I have a chance to make it to the counter (ok, I can be quite competitive but hey, always serious when it involves food).
