I was so excited to discover Rhoda – everyone was telling me so much about the food, the stylish venue and the mysterious unforgettable vanilla cheesecake.
So here we go!
First impression? Look at this venue! Not easy to find at first, but then you would think, how would I miss the massive doors with glass and coppers?
Designed by Joyce Wang (who has also designed Mott 32), it’s elegant and majestic and we feel comfortable and cozy.
The central open kitchen is fantastic – you can sit on the bar around and watch the chef cook.
The menu is changing everyday – Chef Nate Green gets inspired by his market products!
What did we try?
Some snacks first – lotus root chips and chicken liver cream and the padron pepers not so spicy!
The homemade bread was very tasty (and I am tricky on that part you know!).
We have properly started our culinary adventure with 2 dishes from the sea – A delicious tartare of Hiramasa (348HKD) and a Itoyori from Kumamoto with daikon, apple, gin and juniper (248HKD). Really fresh and tasty, as good as it looks.
Then, we have tried the meatballs and spaghetti (248HKD) which were insane!
My friend had a total crush on the short rib and its potato puree (50% butter!) and slow cooked egg (238HKD) : don’t count the calories and enjoy, this is so good!
I love trying lots of sides and the mom’s potato salad (88HKD) was just like the one my mum makes – I could not say better (we are talking about my mum here!!) but eyes closed I felt just like home!
The broccoli and shimeji mushrooms are also a perfect side to pair with your meat.
And finally, the master piece I was expecting – the vanilla cheesecake (128HKD) and its tartness of raspberry and rhubarb. And it stole my heart!J Seriously it is smooth, sweet and perfect to end this delicious journey.
You got that, I loved Rhoda (which is Nate’s grand-mother name and his daughter second name Lily-Rhoda!).
Nate is a genius! He succeed in transporting us with the comfort of family food while adding something new and tasty.
He pays attention in choosing the highest-quality ingredients, and in plating up his creation with a mastery sense of details and the whole experience is a great success.
I can’t wait to go back with a group of friends to try the large sharing dishes of the menu.
And also because Nate mentioned “tap wine” and I am curious… Will you succeed to convert a French to tap wine? Let’s bet on your cheesecake!
Rhoda is a nutshell? A must-try!
