Opened on Start Street less than a year ago, Giando is an italian nugget. Just say the words antipasti, ravioli, tiramisu and I already salivate. How could I wait that long before entering this place?
Chef Gianni (an adorable so-italian guy) insists on products quality. He only wants the best of the best. Every month, he returns to his home country and personally selects its cheese makers, butchers, fisheries, veggies and fruits. No GMO, free range chicken, artisanal products…he could talk for hours about his producers.
When Gia, its first address on Fenwick Pier is more about traditional family dishes, here, we find refinement and elegance. More a Palazzio than a Trattoria atmosphere. Design is simple but modern. Small niches allow more private dinners while the spacious and luminous main room is very welcoming.
What about the food? Set lunch is a great deal and changes all the time. The regular menu is appealing, it’s very hard to choose. Octopus salad is soooo fresh, tomatoes taste like the ones I used to pick in my mum’s garden, pasta al forno are perfectly al dente, sustainable cod melts in the mouth, and the tiramisu: wahou! I wanted to try the green peas risotto, the grilled king prawns, the minestrone, the honey parfait, everything looked so good.
This year for New Year’s Eve, it offers a bevvy of holiday specials and dishes featuring Black and White Truffles such as « Gnocchi in a Pumpkin and Cheese Fondue topped with Black Truffles » (HK$348). You can also go there to pick-up your Panettone which will take you straight away to Roma or Venezia.
I’m telling you : a golden nugget !
