What about a BBQ outside on the lawn, looking at the stars, at the foot of a colonial monument? I’m not talking about sausages and hot dogs with ketchup, served in plastic plates. Not at all, but about perfectly cooked grilled meat and seafood, served in lovely dishes, with mushrooms, asparagus and baked potatoes on the side, wine-paired with a glass of Burgundy or Bordeaux.
Nestling into the old stables of Hullet House in TST (better known as 1881), Stables Grill is the perfect place to go. I’ve always been drawn to this historical place, so I could not hide my pleasure when I climbed the steps. Don’t worry, you won’t smell horse hair or sweat but rather a delicious smell of truffles. This comes from the famous French fries which are already in most of the plates. Having dinner outside is really pleasant, but don’t worry if it’s rainy or too cold, the atmosphere inside is cosy and warm. Just so you know the lampshades are made of the old tubes which were used to ship the wool and the original wooden doors have been preserved. Service is adorable.
What about the menu ? Don’t think too long, here you have to order food from the grill. Lamb, squids, shrimps or beef, they are all ultra-fresh and tender. Simple recipes but perfectly made, we could have asked for more, but be careful, portions are generous, and keep some room for the desserts. They have nothing to be ashamed of, my passion fruit cheesecake was quickly devoured.
