Aren’t you sometimes craving a good old charcoal grilled meat and mezze’s? I am. Whereas eating Mediterranean food wasn’t a problem at all back in France, I realized that I haven’t had Baba Ganoush (Eggplant dip) or Haydari (Turkish Yogurt Dip) since moving to Hong Kong more than 3 years ago and I am kind of missing it.
Wasn’t really sure what to expect from The Sultan’s Table but after hearing from Diane that it’s one of her fav place in town for Middle Easter Food I knew I have to give it a go. And the relocation of the restaurant from Arbuthnot Road to Old Bailey Street was just the perfect excuse for a Mediterranean feast.
On the menu? Hearty dishes such as the Adana Kebab (long, hand-minced meat kebab skewer named after Turkey’s fourth largest city), mezze and vegetarian dishes. Spices and ingredients are imported directly from Turkey.

You won’t be surprised to hear I had way too much food, I feel like it cannot be any other way with Mediterranean food (or is it just me?). Started with Little Little in the middle (HKD 198, serves two) – cold mixed mezze with Eggplant Delice, Haydari, Muhammara (hot pepper dip), Beyaz Peynir (Turkish cheese) and Kopoglu (Turkish salad with eggplants and garlic) … God I’ve missed those flavors! A reasonable person would have then moved directly to the mains but hey who says I’m reasonable? So went for another mezze, hot one this time, and dug-in the Home-made Turkish Dumpling (HKD 128) – minced veal dumplings in home-made natural yogurt. Moving on to the mains there was no way I wasn’t gonna try the Mixed Grill (HKD 698, serves 2), a decadent and super pornfood mix of Adana Kebab, Chicken Skewers (that are super tender), Rack of Lamb and veal Skewers. Oh and this one comes with sides: Turkish rice, fries and salad. You know what? I feel like this delish recommended for two can easily please three. Especially if you wanna make sure to save some appetite for dessert. Which you should so that you can order the Dondurmali Irmik (HKD 98) – semolina flour with milk, walnut, cinnamon and a vanilla ice-cream melting heart.
My recommendation? Gather a bunch of hungry friends and set yourself up for a yummy feast. The more the merrier.
Pssst: the place is also a Shisha Lounge at night (9 pm to 1 am) but I haven’t tried it yet.
The Sultan’s Table
