Skincare? Been there, done that. Gut health? A work in progress. The latest beauty frontier? Scalp care. Trichology – the science of hair and scalp health – is having a moment, with beauty insiders treating their roots with the same devotion as their complexions. And with the changing seasons playing havoc on our hair (hello, winter shedding), plus pregnancy and post-partum hormones about to mess with mine, I decided it was time to see what all the fuss was about.
Enter Svenson - a long-standing name in trichology with a medical-meets-beauty approach. Less spa, more science, their treatments promise to not only pamper but also tackle concerns like thinning, dullness, and scalp irritation at the root (literally). Their latest spring offerings focus on scalp detoxing and hair rejuvenation—perfect if winter left your locks lacklustre.

A spa experience… with a lab coat twist

I opted for the Onsen Aroma Relaxation Hair Spa (HKD 1,388 for trial – HKD 2,080 original price), drawn in by promises of scalp deep cleansing, follicle stimulation, and an indulgent waterfall-style hair spa. It all sounded wonderfully zen, but stepping into the treatment room, I quickly realised this wasn’t your typical ‘light-a-candle-and-relax’ kind of spa. Instead, the experience leans clinical – think a thorough scalp analysis, medical-grade tools, and a focus on results rather than relaxation. There’s an infrared electric scalp massage, a laser comb, and even a placenta restorative treatment (yes, really). While the essential oils and herbal-ball chest massage add a hint of indulgence, the overall vibe is more dermatologist’s office than wellness retreat.
For those who prefer something results-driven over a fluffy head massage, Svenson’s scientific approach might be just the thing. But if you’re after a pampering ‘treat yourself’ moment, you might find the medical aspects a little too, well, medical.

Svenson’s other headline act is the INDIBA + NMN Cellular Regeneration Treatment ( trial price of HKD 1,888 for two sessions), which sounds straight out of a high-tech beauty lab. It combines radio frequency therapy (to boost scalp circulation) with NMN serum (a buzzy anti-ageing ingredient) to promote stronger, thicker hair. The treatment’s science-backed claims are impressive, but this is no quick fix – consistency is key, and it’s more about long-term hair health than instant results.
The verdict?
Svenson takes hair care seriously. Their trichologists know their stuff, and the treatments are packed with innovative ingredients and techniques, but the experience itself leans more functional than feel-good. If you’re after a deeply relaxing, spa-like escape, this might not be the one. But if you’re intrigued by the growing scalp-care trend and want a science-backed boost for your hair, Svenson is your go-to - especially if thinning or scalp issues are on your radar.
Would I swap my usual head massage for a laser comb and placenta treatment every month? Maybe not – but I would when facing a specific hair issue such as temporary hair loss or seasonal thinning. But did I walk out with cleaner, fresher-feeling roots? Definitely.
