The weather has been so gloomy lately, I wished I could escape and spent some time procrastinating on a beach: Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia … But having to stay in the 852, I decided to at least put some sun and heat in my plate and went for the newly launched weekend brunch menu at Kaum.
Let’s do thing properly and order the free-flow Veuve Clicquot champagne. One must know its priorities!
If you usually go for unlimited buffet brunches, your reaction might be: Am I gonna have enough food? (Am I the only one constantly afraid of not having enough and always ending up eating way too much? Some are suffering from FOMO – fear of missing out – I guess I am suffering from FOMF – fear of missing food!). Well, don’t be fooled by the A La Carte menu. YES, you will have enough. Actually, you will even have too much!
Here come the five small plates. A big crush on the Gado Gado, a super yummy blanched veggie salad tossed peanut dressing and served with free-range egg, garlic crackers. Yes, my fav dish of the five was the salad! But the spicy (like very spicy) tiger prawn tails curry – Gulai Udang Aceh – and the marinated fresh tuna – Gohu Ikan Tuna – are also definitely not to be missed!
Lucky me, I got my bubbly glass of Veuve Clicquot to cool down the spices!
After the small plates, you have a choice of 3 larger plates and can re-order those as many time as you want. Nasi Goreng – Indonesian style fried rice with prawns - has been my fav Indonesian dish forever and this one is a killer. But watch out, it is super spicy. The wok-fired baby cabbage with garlic and fermented bean paste – Tumis Keciwis – are like way to pornfood if that word can even be associated with baby cabbage. But the Babi Guling – suckling pig – was definitely way to greasy for me.
I must confess, I did not order any second round. I know, don’t judge me … But there was one super yummy dessert coming and I needed to save some appetite. A layered butter cake with pineapple preserve, lemon curd, burnt pineapple and mango ice-cream is definitely the way I like to end my brunch. I mean, I would not say not to one last glass of Veuve Clicquot …
Between the super yummy food, the good vibes, the bubby champagne and the super nice staff, we ended up spending 3H there. Definitely my kinda Sunday afternoon.
