Aude's Sophrology Column: A little help for your teens
How can your children pass their exams?

Passing exams means working throughout the whole year however stress and loss of confidence may affect the learning. For some people stress takes up so much space that it prevents them from staying focused and absorbing every little sentence. For some students, these emotions can lead to sleep disorders and anxiety.

So, at this point relaxing and finding a way to channel your stress is essential… But how? Here’s a way to help your children during their exam period.

As we all know failure is not related to a lack of intellectual ability but rather concentration problems which result in memorisation difficulty and a lack of self-confidence.

Sophrology is an interesting way to bring your one’s full potential. This is to be done prior to the exam to prepare oneself. There is nothing more reassuring than being mentally prepared for the exam, seeing yourself succeeding and learning to breathe slowly to control your stress levels.
We’ll trick the brain, which is in alert mode, thanks to deep breathing and visualisations that will make the nervous system believe that everything is going well. It will also help to relieve any negative emotions and build-up tension through muscle relaxation.
It will help to allow the brain to freely access its intellectual properties (memory, analysis, knowledge…).

Final advise for you, parents: start by channelling your own stress, because as you know, this won’t help your child… remember, it’s your children who pass the exams and they need your support!
