If you know me a bit (and if you don’t, you can find out a little more over there), you might have heard I spent a semester in Sweden for my studies. Many things I loved about Sweden and one of them was the Fika. Fika? A Swedish word that both means “coffee break” and “drinking coffee”. Fika is a super popular habit in Sweden and you do Fika many times a day: a work with your colleagues but also with family and friends. I did actually really start to enjoy coffee while living in Sweden and still love to use the word Fika whenever I am scheduling coffee with someone. I was therefore happy to hear that my little Nordic pleasure was coming all the way to Hong Kong with Dr. Fern’s Gin Parlour launching its Fika inspired “After-Tea” Nordic afternoon tea.
In a proper Nordic style, this afternoon tea does not feature scones but cornettes and bonbons instead. The set is absolutely beautiful and had me feel like I was taking a stroll in the forest. Let’s start with the savoury part shall we?

- Caviar Cornette - Oyster Cream / Caviar / Waffle Cornette – definitely my fav bite
- Spring Pea Tart - Ricotta / Spring Peas / Pastry Tart – another fav of this set
- Smoked Boquerones - Tomato Jam / Linseed
- Tuna Tartar in a Cucumber Cup – this one I feel would need a little twist (maybe something salty or spicy) to make it more tasty
But do not forget to save some appetite for the sweet bites:
- Chocolate Chips - 61% Dark Chocolate / Sea Salt – it just tasted is so Swedish! Loved it!
- Rose Tart - Rose Cream / Rose Petal / Shortbread Cup – my fav sweet bite of the set
- Coffee Eclair - Chocolate / Coffee Cream
- Raspberry Eclair - Raspberry Jam / White Chocolate / Pastry Cream
- Lemon Financier - Orange Blossom / Powder
To go with it order a cup of coffee, proper Fika style, or go for one of the house tea blend (they are super yummy). Last option, which is definitely not my less fav, is to go for a gin prescription. Just what the doctor ordered!
