La Chandeleur
La Chandeleur
One thing I love about being French is that every month just brings a new excuse for delicious treats. In January, we’ve been eating our weight in Galette des Rois, also known as Kings Cake. This February, we are committed to having a flipping good time with treating ourselves to crepes. On February 2, we celebrate La Chandeleur – aka Candlemas – also known as Crepes Day. Inherited from Christian tradition, La Chandeleur comes exactly 40 days after Christmas and celebrates the Presentation of Jesus at the Temple. It is said that in the 5th century, Pope Gelasius decided to commemorate the day with organizing a candlelit procession in the streets of Rome, procession during which buckwheat galettes were distributed to pilgrims. French being French, we’ve kind of decided to let go of the religious background of the day in order to focus on treating ourselves to something yummy. Nowadays, crepes are flipped all throughout the month of February (actually all throughout the year but that’s another story) leading up to Mardi Gras, also known as fat Tuesday or Shrove Tuesday, the day before Christian Lent season. But hey, that’s enough historical and religious background for today. Let’s get back to what matter the most: where to celebrate the most flipping time of the year?

Can you guess what are the most popular crepe fillings in France?
Sugar and jam* and well if I do love a butter and sugar crepe myself, I have to admit nothing tastes more like home and my childhood than a crepe with jam or fruits preserve. I even remember making our own jam with my Grandma when I was a kid.
This must be the reason why I love Bonne Maman so much. It reminds me of home and my childhood. It actually smells and taste like home with simple and natural ingredients brought together in a jar that is yummy from breakfast to afternoon tea and desserts. And for every foodie out there, there's a Bonne Maman recipe. What will be yours?

My favourite jam: Bonne Maman Apricot Conserve, sweet but also slightly sour, it taste like summer to me and reminds me of summer spent eating crepes in my vacation house in Brittany (did you know that crepe was a traditional dish from Brittany, West of France?)

My favourite jam: Bonne Maman Orange Marmelade. I love it in the morning in a bowl of yogurt and muesli or on weekends with a good old crepe.

My favourite jam: Bonne Maman Intense Strawberry. It’s such a decadent treat and I love to have it with a crepe, some dark chocolate, a touch of whipped cream and a few fresh strawberries for an extra dose of yumminess. I actually love this combo so much that I have made it our limited edition La Crêperie x Bonne Maman chandeleur crepe this year.
