A Sunday afternoon with your family, away from all the noise, yet only 5 minutes from Central. Grilled golden brown on the real wood fire BBQ (with real logs, which is very rare in Hong Kong). Canopies hang over large comfy chairs and teak tables. Children play on the terrace. French music can be heard playing on the radio. It almost feels like a vacation. But no, we are in the heart of Wan Chai, at the Quayside, which opened this Summer.
The French owner who has lived in Hong Kong for 25 years, welcomed us with a relaxed smile. All the tables were full but the atmosphere remained calm and relaxing. I chose the grilled salmon while my husband opted for the bacon and eggs. All dishes were accompanied by options from the self-service salad bar and the soup of the day. With so much on offer at the salad bar, it was not easy to decide what to have. Thai beef salad, tabbouleh, feta salad, red cabbage / apple / lime salad, tomato soup (which really tastes like tomato soup!). We also had the option of making our own salad, with a mix of radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers, onions, carrots, raisins ... beautifully presented. Be careful though not to over indulge because the dishes are really rich (really!).
My salmon was grilled perfectly, and came with mediterranean tomatoes and baked potatoes (with sour cream and chives, just like my mom makes it). The bread is homemade. What a treat! And while we had our coffee in the comfort of the large armchairs, our daughter played on the terrace.
Too bad the brunch ends at 5pm, we would have tried to catch the sunset. Fortunately, the restaurant is also open for lunch and dinner during the week.
