Shop B: modern Dai Pa Dong for the cool kids
Words by Aude Camus

Owned by the same team behind Pondi (here ’s our full review of this charming bistro where bold Indian flavours meet French charm), Shop B boasts a punkier vibe than its sister venue. This is evident from the moment you arrive on Fuk Sau Lane in Sai Ying Pun where both venues share a common address. While Pondi enveloped you with warmth in soft ambiance, Shop B. strikes dark décor and rap tunes.

Opened in 2023, Shop B offers a modern take on the local Dai Pa Dong culture. Expect orange plastic chopsticks and a packed space reminiscent of a classic food stall experience, with a concise menu of dishes that nod to classic Dai Pa Song options. Opt for a beer to complete the experience, whether it’s a classic bottle of Blue Girl or a trendier option such as a draught Suntory or Yardley Brothers IPA. Alternatively, you can fancy things up with a cocktail inspired by Hong Kong’s iconic beverages, like the Vitasoy Milkpunch or Preserved Lemon Highball.

The food is designed to be shared, with small bites like satay squid and potato salad with Chinese sausage, claypot seafood, and mains such as garlic beef and ‘Gwai Lo’ pork ribs. Choose a selection of 6 or 8 dishes, respectively priced at HKD 388 or HKD 588 per person.

It’s noisy, it’s punk and we’re here for it.
