After spending the weekend over in Macau and being treated to a super yummy Portuguese dinner, I’ve been in a very Portuguese food mood lately. That’s when I get invited by Casa Lisboa to try eight new dishes they just added to their menu. Perfect timing, right?
Never been to Casa Lisboa before so did not really know what to expect. But must confess I wasn’t in a “I am going to be blown away mood”. I don’t know why, whenever I heard a restaurant is located in the LKF area I got that stupid thinking like “the food ain’t gonna be good”, just because it’s LKF. But that’s a very stupid thing of me to think especially because there are some restaurants that I do very like in this area (Lily & Bloom, Mercato, New Punjab Club just to mention a few)! So went there expecting Portuguese food which I was craving for but not expecting much more … Well, only fools never changed their mind and I can tell you that I had a lovely and yummy moment at Casa Lisboa.
Located on second floor on Wyndham Street, the room is welcoming and bright. I did actually like the blue tones and extra-large windows, the room was bathing in natural light on that day even though it was a quite gloomy one. It makes you think of Portugal but without it being kitsch.
The dishes I’ve tried are in the exact same spirit, they got that strong taste of Portugal but with a very nice contemporary twist: “Contemporary Portuguese Cuisine”. A vision brought to Hong Kong by Casa Lisboa Executive Chef - Fábio Pombo - and Advance Caterers Limited Group Executive Chef – Jesus Pascal. What does Contemporary Portuguese Cuisine taste like? It tastes like Portuguese food but in a very fresh way, nothing like the heavy and quite filling dishes you (or at least I) usually associate Portuguese cuisine with.

Kenyan beans & green asparagus tempura (HKD 80)
No no tempuras are not a Japanese only thing. Even though it is a signature item in Japanese cuisine, tempura originated from Portugal.

Well, I guess than between the three new dishes I haven’t tried yet plus the Classic Signature dishes which are on the menu and that I haven’t tried either I’ll have to plan another trip to Casa Lisboa very soon. And guess what? This time, I am super excited about it!
