It’s Friday and I’ll probably be hitting a few bars this weekend, treating myself to a few rounds of drinks. But I am not in the mood for dirty sticky pinte of beers, I was rather thinking cocktails actually. If you are in the same mood, you might wanna have a look at the newly released Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019 list featuring 8 Hong Kong bars among the 50 awarded bars. Lucky me, I’ve already visited a few of those places and happy to give you some tips on what to order.
1. In Our Time – 1924 at The Old Man (#1 Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019)

1. In Our Time – 1924 at The Old Man (#1 Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019)
Opened in 2017, The Old Man, a tribute to Ernest Hemingway classic’s “The Old Man and the Sea” has taken Hong Kong’s and Asia’s cocktail scenes by storm with a quite unique approach to mixology.
A cocktail to order: In Our Time – 1924 with celery, salted tequila and clarified banana ghee (editor’s note: clarified butter) named after the collection of short stories and vignettes chronicling the years before and after World War I that rocketed Hemingway to fame.

2. Lavender Meringue Pie at Quinary (#10 Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2019)

Opened not even a year ago and already awarded as one of the 50 Best Bars in Asia, The Wise King build on thirteenth century Spain and the reign of King Alfonso X to offer a unique and exotic cocktail menu.
A cocktail to order: #BlissNegroni which captures the bliss of indulgence during thirteenth century Spain under King Alfonso’s rule, a drink named after the same molecular compound (“bliss”) found in chocolate, truffles, and cannabis. Made with black truffle, Nutella, gin, peated Mancino Rosso and Amari, it will have drinkers experiencing pure euphoria when consumed.
