Infrared Sauna

Beauty & wellness powered by machines
WhereLifeHub, 1/F, The Loop, 33 Wellington Street – Central

What
Much has been made of the health and wellness benefits of sauna:
  • Increase blood circulation
  • Reduce risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Relieves stress
  • Flush toxins from your body

But not everyone enjoys to seat in the unbearable heat of a sauna. I myself quite hate it as I find it hard to breathe and always feel slightly dizzy (due to dehydration resulting from fluid loss while sweating). But I’ve recently discovered the new generation of sauna - Infrared Sauna – which does offer the benefits of a sauna without the extreme heat.

Unlike traditional saunas, infrared saunas do not use heat but infrared lamps to warm your body (using electromagnetic radiation) and make you sweat. An infrared sauna can therefore operate at a lower temperature than a traditional sauna and heats up your body rather than heating up the air (meaning that you can sit in the sauna with your phone or a book). Oh and if you are just like me and do not really enjoy having to seat in a traditional sauna and share it with people you’ve never seen before while you are half-naked, infrared sauna cubicles are individual ones and you can wear workout gear (or any sweat-friendly attire) for your session.

With the heat penetrating your body more deeply than in a traditional sauna (you might actually find yourself still sweating for the next hour after your session), here are some benefits you can expect from enjoying (on a regular basis) infrared sauna sessions:
  • Relaxation (which is not always easy to achieve when you can barely breathe in a traditional sauna)
  • Detoxification
  • Relief from sore muscles
  • Relief from joint pain
  • Glowing skin
  • Improved blood circulation

And in case you were wondering, infrared lamps are nothing like the lamps used in tanning beds and therefore can’t give you skin cancer. The only thing you risk in an infrared sauna is overheating (very unlikely to happen if you follow the guidelines and do not spend too much time in the infrared sauna cubicle).

How much
HKD 680 for a single session (45 minutes)
HKD 600 per session when buying a pack of 10

Intense Glow Treatment

Beauty & wellness powered by machines
Where: French medi-spa Estheclinic, 16/F, 8 Lyndhurst Terrace – Central

What
Looking to say bye to dull, tired, pigmented and aged skin and say hello to the glow? (REDISCOVER OUR EASY TIPS TO ACHIEVE A HEALTHY SUMMER GLOW) Why don’t you give a go to Estheclinic, an award-winning French medi-spa, popular Intense Glow Treatment? Combining Intense Pulsed Light and non-invasive LED photomodulation technology, this very unique treatment uses the power of technology to regenerate your skin from the inside.

First, the Intense Pulsed Light technology uses the light energy, delivered in multiple wavelengths, to target damaged or pigmented skin cells and therefore smoothening, brightening and rejuvenating your skin.

Then, LED light therapy uses a combination of red and yellow light to activate new collagen formation and simultaneously inhibit the breakdown of existing collagen. The production of collagen helps delaying the signs of aging.

Is it painful? Not at all. The Intense Pulsed Light step might seem a little weird as you will experience flashing lights, almost like fireworks, and might feel a slight sensation of heat on your skin but nothing too unpleasant. The LED light step is absolutely pain-free and very relaxing, and you might even fell asleep.

The benefits you can expect after a few sessions:
  • More even skin tone
  • Brighter skin
  • Reduce hyperpigmentation
  • Refine pores

How much
HKD 2,300 for the face / HKD 2,900 for face and neck (treatment lasts between 40 and 60 minutes)
Packages available for 6, 10 and 15 sessions

HydraFacial

Beauty & wellness powered by machines
WhereSense of Touch Central Day Spa, 1-5F, 52 D’Aguilar Street, Lan Kwai Fong - Central

What: HydraFacialTM is an award-winning treatment performed with a special machine designed to extract impurities and removes dead skin cells while at the same time hydrating and moisturizing the skin with serums. You might feel slight discomfort during the treatment (I mean, impurity extraction is never the most relaxing part of a treatment) but nothing unbearable at all and I’ve been quite impressed with the result: a cleaner skin, a beautiful glow.

How much: HKD 1,580 (60 min)

HIFU face lift

Beauty & wellness powered by machines
WhereNude Waxing Beautique, 14-01 Wellington Place, 2-8 Wellington Street – Central

What: Sun, pollution, aging … there are many reasons why your skin doesn’t look as puffy and tight today as it used to. I mean, that’s just the way it is and, even though I don’t very much like this idea, I’m way to scared by surgery to even think about giving it a go somedays. Isn’t it any nonsurgical way to enjoy tighter skin, smaller pores and noticeable V-shape with cheekbones that pop? Well, there actually is one! HIFU also known as High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, a technology which uses ultrasounds to target the foundational layer of your skin and re-energize the collagen in it to create a strong and smoother underlying architecture now available at Nude Beautique. No surgery, no needles!

Is it painful? Not exactly but it’s not the most enjoyable sensation either. Totally bearable though.

Do you see immediate results? Yes, you do. I took before and after pictures of my session (which I won’t share here because I mean, close-up shots of my totally makeup-free face is not something I feel like showing-off to the rest of the world) and the most visible result was a definitely better shaped V with popping cheekbones. For better results, a series of four consecutives treatments at monthly intervals is recommended.

I am 100% convinced by the results, the only thing refraining me from completing the four sessions is the cost of it because yes, using a highly advanced technology does come with a relatively high fee.

How much: HKD 2,388 for first session then HKD 8,000 per session
