5 new brunches for your foodie list

June 14th 2018

by Aude

This rainy weather had me being all gloomy lately. And whenever I am gloomy there’s only one thing which can really help: food. And since the rain is keeping me away from the beach (did I already told you how “vulgar” I turn whenever the sun is out and love nothing more than laying on the beach working on my tan? The tanner I get, the happier I am … you can imagine how gloomy I’ve been lately with that shitty weather) I can definitely tell you there has been a lot of food happening lately and some more in the pipe. If I cannot spend my Sunday on the beach theirs is only one another thing I’m ok to do: brunch. Thought you might be looking for a yummy brunch to treat yourself too so here I am sharing 5 new brunches with you.

MERCATO BY JEAN GEORGES

5 new brunches for your foodie list
I just loved this brunch. Sorry for the buffet lovers this one is A La Carte but it’s just so good! They call this new brunch menu “Heartwarming homestyle weekend brunch” and that’s exactly it except that it is obviously way yummier than brunch at home.

On the menu? Dishes to share (or not – I know I don’t really like sharing either but put it this way, if you share you get a chance to try more things so come on now, will you share with me? Please?) including eggs in several ways, avocado toasts, a killer Croque Madame (HKD 168) and the yummiest Smoked Salmon Pizza (HKD 228) - with house made ricotta on the crust … could have easily had this one just for myself!

Hong Kong Madame fav: the Cinnamon Sticky Buns with Cream Cheese frosting (HKD 98). OMG! This thing is da bomb!
I mean wherever I go I would usually rather have starter and main than main and dessert (that is if I really have to choose, otherwise I’ll do starter – main – dessert thanks) but for those sticky buns I would happily skip any kind of savoury dish just to make sure I can stuff myself with as much cinnamon buns as possible!

Out of the 5 brunches of this article this one is def my fav.

Free-flow option available for 2h. HKD 198 for Prosecco, Peroni beer, wine and cocktails.

THEO MISTRAL by Theo Randall

5 new brunches for your foodie list
Newly opened this year at InterContinental Grand Stanford Hong Kong, Theo Mistral is the Hong Kong home of British celebrity chef Theo Randall (who, if I am being 100% honest, I did not know before) famous for his award-winning take on classic Italian cuisine.

Theo Mistral by Theo Randall is the perfect brunch for those who cannot decide if they want buffet or not as it is semi-buffet.
La Dolce Vita Brunch, a very accurate name for a brunch starting with antipasti buffet. That’s the thing with buffet, one part of me like it because it means food profusion and the other part don’t like it that much because it very often) means less quality. Well, this antipasti table just proved me wrong! Perfect quality! The products, all directly imported from Italy are just so yummy. You know what, I actually had way more than my share of focaccia, insalate, mozzarella tomatoes, mortadella, bresaola, parma ham … and had to skip the seafood bar to make sure I can still eat the main dish. And I can tell you I’m not the kind of girl who would usually skip any part of her meal. If you are going don’t be like me, of course go for the antipasti but definitely feels like this seafood bar also deserve a go. Oh and of course have a slice of homemade pizza before they serve you the primi piati … that’s the proper Italian way to do things.

Primi piati you get two choose between two kinds of pasta. I tried both the mixed green ricotta raviolis and the slow cooked veal cappelletti and nothing to say except yummy.

Was slightly disappointed by the mains (one to choose among 5 dishes). But homemade tiramisu from the desserts table made it for this slight deception.

Hong Kong Madame fav: if you haven’t get it, the antipasti table definitely.

A very good option for family and for group of friends as it offers quite a variety of choice without compromising the quality of the food. The real downside for me is the place as I don’t like the idea of eating in a basement without windows and day light … well, nothing a good plate of antipasti can’t make you forget.

A budget friendly option but a very yummy one. And that’s another Italian flavour infused brunch … I know.
But no buffet for this one, you’ll have to choose your dish. Will you go for the Brunch Calzone (HKD 120) – fennel sausage, poached and scrambled eggs, cooked ham, mozzarella and cherry tomatoes – or maybe the Uovo in Purgatorio (HKD 115)– poached eggs, spicy pomodor, salami, smoked mozzarella and pizza bread?

Ok done with Italian food, this time I’m suggesting a Korean Gourmet Brunch. What do you think?
And it’s start with unlimited Korean bites. Yes you heard me properly, unlimited. Yes yes that means eat as much as you want. Then comes the Chef’s Pick Premium dish, a very special treat for introducing the best seasonal ingredients and that before they ask you to choose a main:
-       Kimch & Bacon Hotteok: Korean rice cakes w/ smoked bacon, kimchi and cheddar filling and caramelized onions … my pick of course! So yummy!
-      Korean fried baby ½ chicken
-      Fish of the day
-      Multi grain Bimbimbap
-      Slow braised USDA Prime Beef short RIB

Oh and if you ask me the best part of it is that the boozy package includes my old time fav: the Kimchi Mary (a spiced Bloody Mary with Kimchi)!

PORTERHOUSE

5 new brunches for your foodie list
Launched in February, this buffet brunch is quite a decadent affair for groups of friends and families! The only full buffet brunch of this article.

Starting w/ the Antipasti Buffet where again you will find me stuffing myself with Italian Cold-Cuts. Of course, meat lovers can’t miss the Carving Station featuring a star: the Rangers Valley Wagyu Rib-Eye Roast Beef. And you know what? This time I made a note to myself to slow down on the antipasti and gave a go to the Seafood Station, which I did treating myself to oysters and lobster.
